Community Comes Together: How Volunteers Saved Our Spring Wedding Season
It’s been an exciting start to our spring wedding season this year! However, it hasn’t been without its challenges.
An Unexpected Setback
A little over a month ago, something unexpected happened. Derek actually burst his Achilles tendon! Unfortunately, this happened at the worst possible time. Specifically, it occurred right in the middle of landscaping for our spring wedding season.
At that moment, we had hundreds of trees ready to be planted. Additionally, we had acres of land that needed immediate attention. The timing couldn’t have been more challenging. After all, spring couples were counting on us. Moreover, the planting season waits for no one.
A Moment of Uncertainty
At first, we weren’t sure what we were going to do. Overwhelmed doesn’t even begin to describe how we felt. Furthermore, we were worried about letting our couples down. The physical demands of landscaping are immense. Consequently, Derek’s injury put everything at risk.
We considered our options carefully. Meanwhile, the clock was ticking. The trees needed to go in the ground soon. Similarly, the property required constant maintenance. In short, we needed help fast.
United Way Steps In
Then, something amazing happened. United Way of Douglas and Pope Counties reached out to us! After hearing about our situation, they chose to help us out for their annual “Day of Caring.”
For those unfamiliar, “Day of Caring” is a special event. During this day, students help out with community projects throughout the area. In other words, it’s a day dedicated to giving back. This year, we were fortunate enough to be selected.
An Army of Helpers
Before we knew it, we had over a dozen students on our property! Armed with shovels and rakes, they came ready to work hard. Moreover, their energy was incredible. In addition, their enthusiasm was contagious.
The students tackled every task with dedication. Planting trees, raking, and clearing brush—they did it all. Furthermore, they worked tirelessly throughout the day. Meanwhile, we also had a couple of local college students volunteer their time as well. Their help was equally invaluable.
Gratitude Beyond Words
We want to extend a huge thank you to all the volunteers! Truly, we cannot express how grateful we are. Along with our spring couples, we so deeply appreciate this help!
Without a doubt, we couldn’t have done it without them. Their generosity saved our season. More importantly, they reminded us of the power of community. In the end, this experience showed us something beautiful. Specifically, it proved that when challenges arise, people step up.
Thank you again to United Way of Douglas and Pope Counties. Thanks also go to every student who showed up. Local college students deserve recognition as well. Because of you all, our spring couples will have the beautiful venue they’ve been dreaming of!
